The Auckland Opioid Treatment Service (AOTS) provides opioid substitution treatment for the voluntary treatment of opioid use disorder.

Who We Are

The Auckland Opioid Treatment Service (AOTS) provides opioid substitution treatment for the voluntary treatment of opioid use disorder.

The service is responsible for all prescribed opioid treatment for substance use disorder across the Auckland region, including authorised primary-care providers, in accordance with the Misuse of Drugs Act (MODA) 1975.

Treatment is person-centred and strengths-based, with recovery defined by the person on their own continuum of abstinence and harm reduction.

Where We Are Based

AOTS operates across the entire Auckland region, within Te Whatu Ora Waitematā, Auckland and Counties Manukau areas.
Service sites include:

  • AOTS Pitman House: 50 Carrington Road, Point Chevalier
  • AOTS North: 44 Taharoto Road, Takapuna
  • AOTS West: 1 Trading Place, Henderson
  • AOTS South: 7 Ronwood Avenue, Manukau
    Satellite clinics are also provided as needed, including Waiheke Island, Great Barrier Island, Pukekohe, Glen Innes, Helensville and Warkworth.

Our Service

  • Community-based service – no residential beds
  • Clinic-based admission and treatment as required

Duration of Stay

  • Flexible – treatment length based on individual need
  • Many people remain in treatment long-term; others access short-term or periodic support

What We Offer

  • Prescribed opioid substitution medications: methadone or buprenorphine with naloxone (bupnx)
  • Registered nurse and medical assessments of opioid treatment needs
  • Dose initiation, titration and continuity of treatment
  • Key-worker support and shared-care coordination with primary care
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), counselling and group work (available as needed)
  • Family / whānau engagement and facilitated family sessions
  • Cultural support and referrals to specialist cultural services or groups
  • Vocational and education referrals
  • Harm-reduction and recovery support aligned with individual goals
