Who We Are

The CADS MedicalDetoxification Unit provides a short-term inpatient medical withdrawalmanagement service for individuals experiencing difficulties with alcohol andother drug use. The service supports people to safely withdraw from substances in a medically supported environment and prepare for ongoing treatment andrecovery supports.

‍Our Accommodation

• 10 inpatient beds
• The unit provides withdrawal management for adults requiring medical support during detoxification from alcohol or other drugs
• The service is a mixed-gender unit and supports individuals across the Auckland region who require inpatient withdrawal management

‍Duration of Stay

Typical length of stay is approximately 7 days, depending on the substance involved, withdrawal severity, and individual clinical needs

Our programme is based on a medical and harm reduction model of care, delivered through a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach

• 24-hour nursing care
• Medical oversight and daily medical review
• Medically supervised withdrawal management
• Monitoring of withdrawal symptoms and physical health
• Individual support and brief therapeutic interventions
• Medication management and stabilisation
• Family/whānau engagement where appropriate
• Cultural support
• Peer support specialists
• Assessment and planning for ongoing treatment and recovery supports
• Linkage with community AOD services following discharge
