WELCOME TO THE COUNTIES mANUKAU AOD PROVIDER COLLABORATIVE'S WEBSITE!

We encourage you to explore and find out more about our projects and other resources. We work closely with the Counties Manukau Primary Mental Health and Addiction Governance Group and have developed a number of resources and events to support primary care professionals working with people who present with addiction or mental health challenges.

To help you navigate to content that we think might be of use to primary care professionals, we've picked out some highlights below:

ACCESSING AOD AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES:

• We have produced a Wellness Support brochure for people who are seeking community support for their mental distress.
• Our AOD Service brochure is a useful guide for referrers to determine the most appropriate service for the needs of their clients and whānau. We encourage you to share it with your clients. See the latest version in the "Useful Links".
• We have also produced a Youth Service Map
• The AOD Provider Collaborative is made up of 16 organisations working within the alcohol and other drug sector in Counties Manukau.  Visit the Membership page for a list of members and their websites.

SECTOR RESEARCH:

We strive to understand the sector better so that we can make organisational and systemic improvements that will help maximise outcomes for people living in Counties Manukau.

To this end, we commission our own research and also seek to disseminate the work of other researchers who are examining critical issues in the AOD sector in New Zealand.  Recent work includes:

• Aftercare, or continuing care, for AOD service users: To help identify strategies to engage and re-engage consumers in their recovery journey, we commissioned research in 2012 that engaged users and service providers in Counties Manukau and also reviewed current literature and best practice from New Zealand and internationally.
• How to best support young people concerned about their drinking: a presentation by Associate Professor Robyn Dixon at the 2015 AOD Provider Collaborative Research Symposium
• Problematic alcohol use and intimate partner violence: an update from the NZ Family Violence Clearinghouse by Dr Pauline Gulliver, University of Auckland
• AOD research in the Pacific and within Pacific populations in New Zealand: A presentation by Dr Vili Nosa at the 2014 AOD Provider Collaborative Research Symposium.
• WERO - an innovative smoking cessation initiative: A presentation by Ingrid Minett at the 2014 AOD Provider Collaborative Research Symposium.
• Identifying the prevalence of hazardous drinking in older adults and flags for primary care workers: A presentation by Dr Andy Towers at the 2014 AOD Provider Collaborative Research Symposium.
