Peer Support Worker – Ember Puna Whakataa (Bob’s story)

We have a team of Peer Support Workers at Puna Whakataa who support our guests in their early recovery, often coming to us from a detox facility or straight from the community.

*Bob* in particular was a guest of ours, who came to us as a broken man. Bob was no longer working and his family life was shattered.

Bob however was a resilient man, who never gave up, despite many relapses.

I remember a time with Bob where he was in tears. We talked about the benefits of doing such things as the WRAP & PET courses. Getting a PSW in the community and doing rehabilitation.

Bob embraced everything with unforgettable passion & enthusiasm.

Today I get the privilege of witnessing Bob living a full life of happiness, with his relationships restored.

Bob now works in the AOD sector supporting others in their very early recovery.
