Between 2014 and 2017 the AOD Provider Collaborative, in partnership with the Centre for Addiction Research at the University of Auckland and the Counties Manukau Mental Health and Addictions Partnership - CHAMP (since 2016), offered an annual Research Symposium to people working within addictions and mental health in Counties Manukau. Each year, we endeavoured to offer research that was relevant to the needs of the people of Counties Manukau.
We were fortunate to host a number of researchers whose work specifically looked at how we might support Pasifika people living with addiction and mental health challenges. These included:
- Dr Sione Vaka, Massey University - Ūloa: an alternate model of care for mental health services (2017)
- Nalei Taufa and Associate Professor Vili Nosa, University of Auckland - Her Side of the Kava Story (2015)
- Dr Lanuola Asiasiga, Massey University - Alcohol Policy Interventions in New Zealand (APINZ) 2011: Pacific Drinkers (2015)
- Dr El-Shadan Tautolo, AUT - Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD): Findings from the Pacific Islands Families (PIF) Study (2015)
- Associate Professor Vili Nosa, University of Auckland - Tobacco, Alcohol, Other Drugs (TAOD) within the Pacific and within Pacific populations in New Zealand (2014)
